In, A Spring in the Desert, Frank and Victoria Logue offer a Lenten journey inspired by the many passages of scripture that use images of water in the desert as a sign of the healing and wholeness that come through God alone. You can buy the book for individual reading or a book group, and there is also a corresponding video course for individuals or groups.

Walk in Love: Episcopal Beliefs & Practices is a book by Scott Gunn and Melody Wilson Shobe that takes you on a tour through the Book of Common Prayer and beyond to learn the beliefs and practices of the Episcopal Church. The book works well for book groups, but there is also five-part ChurchNext course led by the authors suitable for individuals or groups.

Books suitable for Lenten study and reading

Something lighter for Lent

Join the Journey through Lent, illustrated by award-winning cartoonist Jay Sidebotham, invites spiritual reflection and is a wonderful companion for the Lenten season. Color your own calendar, perfect for all ages.

Lent Madness is an online Lenten devotion that’s fun and engaging. 32 saints face off in a basketball-style bracket, and people vote for which saint deserves the Golden Halo. It’s a bit silly, but through the season we learn about the way Christ’s love shines in the lives of ordinary people. You can give people copies of the

Saintly Scorecard (bulk price) to learn about the saints, and there’s a giant bracket poster to track your saint’s progress. Many parishes run weekly discussion groups or classes based on Lent Madness and saints.

Dust Bunnies in the Basket: Finding God in Lent & Easter. Episcopal priest Tim Schenck offers good humor and spiritual direction for the journey through Lent and Easter. With keen observations and a clever wit, Schenck connects the mundane with the divine, from dust bunnies and egg hunts to foot washing and the Easter Vigil.
